Dog’s Health « Kandy’s Kritter Kronicles

peachgrapesJust wanted to give everyone a reminder that grapes, raisans, and peach pits are very dangerous to your canine friends.

Grapes and raisans are toxic to dogs.  The amount they need to eat to have toxicity varies.  It’s best not to let them have them at all.  If you have them growing in your yard keep the dogs from grazing the vines or eating them off the ground.

Peach pits are deadly to dogs if swallowed.  Their sharp, ragged  edges can rip up the intestinal system.

Both fruits also cause diarhhea.  The best solution is to keep dogs away from these fruits, and clean up around the vines and trees.

Throughout my career working with animals I have run into a few dozen men out there who simply cannot get their minds around the importance of neutering male dogs.  Funny, but they have no problem spaying the females.

I have run into the scenario more often than I care to where a guy has both a female and male dog.  He chose to spay the female and leave the male intact.   Now these guys come up with the darnedest reasons for not neutering their male.  Some will say they want to breed them.  And yes, if you have never  bred a dog before this makes you a backyard breeder.  Some will say there is no reason to because their female is spayed and can’t get pregnant. Dumb because there are other female bitches (dogs) on the planet.

None of these men ever admit they don’t want to do it because they are associating their own nuts with their dogs.   From a  psychological standpoint this is redirecting your own fears onto your dogs!  Come on guys and grow some real balls.  Get your male dogs neutered.  It is better for their health and well-being.  They tend to stay at home, have less health issues such as enlarged prostates and testicular cancer.   The biggest reason….we don’t need any more UNWANTED PETS!
